Drom-n-Inch(Tipperary) 2-08

The Tipp men picked off some nice points to  keep the margin to the minimum however Croom had a dream finish to the half when that man Aonghus McNamara had two goals and James Malone a point to open a vital gap but by the time referee John Healey(Clare)blew the short whistle the score read Croom 3-04  Drom n Inch 1-05.
The second half saw the Tipp men lay siege on the croom  defence and point by point reel in the scores and a goal with five minuets to go  gave a lifeline as the clock ticked away but a dogged croom side held firm as Patrick Reidy and Ed Morrissey added the insurance points to seal victory on a final scoreline of Croom 3-09 Drom n Inch 2-08. Saturday last saw killeedy travel to Feenagh  for the u14 13aside hurling county final against Bruree. The men from the south had the opening score but Killeedy replied immediatly from the puck out with a point from Gearoid Downey the hurling was fast and tough on a well presented feenagh field as Bruree edged in front with another point, however Killeedy were gradually getting the upper hand and were unlucky not to have a goal when a great pass from Owen cunningingham found padraigh ahern but a good save by the bruree keeper denied killeedy  with the wind behind them two pointed frees and two further scores from play by padraigh saw killeedy take the lead as we reached half time by 0-5 to 0-2. As players and mentors huddled in the field all observers agreed this game was still there for either team. Bruree with the wind at there backs  came at Killeedy in waves in the second half  as they sought  vital scores but the resolve of the Killeedy defence was resoulute as Cathal Flynn Jason Shanahan Alex Culhane Tim Larkin and Jack Sheehan tackled chased blocked hooked and put there bodys on the line to protect the killeedy goal while keeper John Ahern displayed great ability with some vital saves. In midfield Shane Butler and Cian Magnier Flynn along with  captain Joseph Hennessy  Gearoid Downey and Micheal Begley worked tirelessly and supported there defence and while Bruree did register two scores from frees and one point from play to level the game with ten minuets to go it was Killeedy who seemed to have the momentum with every clearance lifting the players to greater effort as Bruree missed  two 65s and a free. Conor begley was introduced for micheal, and the question now was who wanted it the most as the clock ticked  down . Bruree attacked once more but stout defending by Killeedy saw the ball go wide. The puck out saw Gearoid win the ball   his  pass found Owen who released it quickly to Padraigh and a bullet of a shot saw the ball in the net to wild scenes among  players and supporters. Bruree  came forward with one last effort  but Killeedy won back possession and Padraigh  pointed to insure a Killeedy victory by 1-06 to 0-05 as referee Jim long blew for time. Captain Joseph Hennessy accepted the cup from county bord na nog chairman Tony Roche and thanked all who had helped with the team and finished with three loud cheers for a gallant Bruree. The killeedy panel was j ahern c flynn j shanahan a culhane t larkin j sheehan s butler  c magnier-flynn g downey j hennessy (capt) ml begley p ahern o cunningham c begley  d hennessy d ahern j hennessy a kelly d o donnell d lane e forde. Leinster Junior B Hurling Semi-Final:

The second semi-final of the Leinster Junior B Hurling Championship took place on Thursday 17th February. This game was played under lights at Heywood College, co Laois. This is the first ever game to be under lights in this competition. Lisdowney (Kilkenny) and Brosna Gaels (Offaly) served up a very entertaining contest. The first quarter of the game saw some scores of the highest calibre from both sides. Aaron Fogarty and Edward Kenny were particularly impressive in the Lisdowney attack. Between them they accounted for 1-7 of Lisdowney’s first half total, Kenny scoring the goal with a neat finish from a tight angle. Brosna Gaels full-forward Micko Kelly lead the fight for the Offaly Champions, scoring 1-1 in the first half. At the short whistle the scoreline was Lisdowney 1-8 to Brosna Gael’s 1-2.
The Offaly men made a whirlwind start to the second half scoring 3 unanswered points from Captain Jeffrey Cuskelly, to narrow the margin to 3 points. However this was as close as they could get to the Kilkenny men. Points from Aaron Fogarty and Eoin Delahanty steadied the ship for Lisdowney, who ran out winners on a score line of 1-12 to 1-6, to book a Leinster Final date with Ballinderreen of Galway.
This promises to be a very closely contested game indeed. The Galway men were hugely impressive in their semi-final win over a youthful Parnell’s (Dublin) team. They will once again look to their inspirational captain Keith Barr to lead them from centre back, with Sean Costello and Gerry Fahey and Gerry Helebert the men to watch up-front. Lisdowney will need to keep up their impressive work-rate to challenge the Galway Champions. Full back Micheal Bergin was solid in their semi-final and marshalled his defence very well. Up-front Aaron Fogarty, Edward Kenny and Captain Eoin Delahanty will provide the threat to the Galway rear-guard. The game is fixed for Sunday 27th February, @2pm in Heywood College, Ballinakill, Co Laois.

Leinster Junior B Hurling Semi-Final match report

Leinster Junior B Hurling Semi-Final
On Saturday last, February 12th, Parnell’s (Dublin) and Ballinderreen (Galway) did battle in the first of this year’s Leinster semi-final’s. The game was played at Heywood College, Ballinakill, Co Laois on their new all weather pitch.
Parnell’s raced from the block’s, aided by a strong swirling wind; they led 1-3 to 0-1 after 12 minutes. Thomas Kelly netting the goal, while the impressive Colm McDonald added 3 points from half-forward. However it was the Galway men who dominated the remainder of the half. Driven on by their inspirational centre back and captain, Keith Barr, they slowly took control of the game. Two opportunist goals from full-forward Gerry Fahey, along with points from Gerry Helebert (2) helped them find their feet. Two long range frees against the strong wind by Keith Barr edged them further in front, with Colm McDonald keeping the Dublin team in touch from placed ball’s. Ballinderreen led 2-5 to 1-7 at the break.
Parnell’s faced the elements in the second half, and struggled to compete in the physical exchanges with a more seasoned Galway side. Goals from Gerry Helebert & substitute Barry Quinn ended the game as a contest. Centre forward Sean Costello who was Ballinderreen’s primary ball winning forward scored two points, while Barr added a further two long range missiles to his day’s tally. Ballindaerreen ran out winners on a score line of 4-11 to 1-10. The Parnell’s team can take great heart in their performance, with 10 U21’s in their starting line-up they acquitted themselves very well. Ballinderreen used all their experience, especially when playing against the wind in the first half. They now await the winners of the second semi-final between Brosna Gaels (Offaly) & Lisdowney (Kilkenny).
The club would like to thank all stewards who travelled and helped out on the day, and to referee Donie Browne for a job well done on the day.

Munster Championship

Sunday January 30 saw doneraile of cork and thurles sarsfields of tipperary face each other for the title of munster champions and the michael fitzmaurice cup. Doneraile started in whirlwind fashion and dominated the opening quarter building an early lead thurles sars recovered in the second quarter and narrowed the margin to two points following a haul of 1-04 without reply from the rebel representatives and leave the half time score doneraile 1-07 thurles sars 1-05. The men from north cork delt a body blow to the premier men when getting an early second half goal and sensing victory went for the jugular hunting in packs they added two more goals and some fine points to ensure the Munster trophy would reside in north cork as thurles sars could find no answer to the rebel attacks. Final score doneraile 4-11 thurles sarsfields 1-07. Ross hunter captain of doneraile accepted the munster trophy on behalf of the team and player of the match sponsored by the pub raheenagh was awarded to doneraile mid field player ian o brien. Leinster Junior B Hurling Championship Quarter Finals

Leinster Junior B Hurling Championship Quarter Finals

On Saturday 29th of January, the quarter finals of the Leinster Championship were played in frosty conditions, at the Clough Ballacolla Gaa Grounds in Laois. The games were originally fixed for Johnstown in Kilkenny, but this venue fell victim to the weather. A huge thank you to the Clough Ballacolla club for making their facilities available at the eleventh hour.

Cullion (Westmeath) v Brosna Gaels (Offaly)
The first game up, provided a very incident packed opening 15 minutes of action, with Brosna Gaels racing into a 5 point lead, before having a player dismissed for a late challenge. However this did not knock the Offaly champions from their stride, and by the short whistle they lead by 3-6 to 0-1. Killian Ryan bagged 3 goals from corner forward, while Micko Kelly, Keith Lawlor and Captain Jeffrey Cuskelly looked very impressive for Brosna Gaels in attack. To their credit Cullion did not throw in the towel at half-time, and out-scored their opponents by 2-3 to 0-3 in the second half. However they never looked like catching the Offaly champions, who progress to meet Kilkenny champions Lisdowney in the Leinster Semi-Final. Final Score 3-6 to 2-4.

Parnell’s (Dublin) v Ballinakill (Laois)
The second game of the day also had a lively opening quarter, with both teams getting to know each other. Referee Simon Stokes issued a few yellow cards and the game eventually settled down. From the outset Parnell’s appeared to be the a very young and slick outfit. Dwayne Coyle and Stephen Duffy took control of midfield and supplied some super ball into the inside forwards. Munster junior b hurling semi finals

Saturday december 11 saw thurles sarsfields play sixmilebridge in killeedy gaa field raheenagh in the first of the munster junior b hurling semi finals. The tipp side dominated the opening twenty and looked like having the game ended as a contest but the men from the banner finished the half strongly and narrowed the gap to four points. Sixmilebridge started the second half much better and it was the thurles net minder who kept his side in the game with three fine saves when it looked like the bridge were through for certain goals the clare men never gave up trying but the thurles defence would not yield and the men from tipp held on with the final score thurles sarsfields 2-10 sixmilebridge 1-09.

Sunday december 12 saw killeedy welcome cork champions donerail for the second of the munster junior b hurling semi finals. Doneraile swept killeedy aside in the opening twenty and but for some poor shooting by the north cork side they would have been out of sight the killeedy lads rallied in the closing ten minuets to bring the margin back with a goal and a point by ger kelly and a point by john murray but a late goal by the cork men saw them lead by 1-07 to 1-02 at half time. Killeedy started better in the second half and narrowed the gap to two points when the cork side scored a second goal and a point. Killeedy replied quickly when john murray found the net for killeedy and ger kelly added points to bring the margin down to one but killeedy could not over haul the men from doneraile with the final score doneraile 2-09 killeedy 2-07 and so the journey comes to an end for killeedy but the munster final should be another spectacle with two deserving finalists and will be played towards the end of january the date will be confirmed after christmas
